My passion for photography began almost 40 years now, one Saturday lunchtime in my local pub. A friend and fellow apprentice, had all these photos he had taken at Brands Hatch at the British Grand Prix. They were well exposed and filled the frame, but most of all they were sharp. I had felt frustrated for a while at how impossible it was to get anything remotely worth a look with a Kodak Ektra 110 instamatic that my Parents had gave me for Christmas. I was intrigued and literally bombarded him with questions and within a week I had a shiny new Olympus OM1 35mm camera and a ' how to' book to read. And so my passion began. A life long journey, from black and white printing in my parents bathroom, to present day and having this website and sharing my work with you in cyberspace.
Apart from Motorsport, I enjoy all aspects of photography as you will see from my galleries. I try to get the best from the images I capture, that could be anything from a Clematis Flower to The Red Arrows. My expertise of Photoshop is growing by the day, but I much prefer to try as much as I can to get it right in camera. I like a little subtle HDR, but not all the heavy stuff that everybody seems to favor, and composite imaging for me is rare. I also like scanning my old slides and negatives and applying today's technology to them. I have also rediscovered my love for monochrome imagery and now prefer to work in this medium nowadays .I prefer to print my images and mount them myself and every image is completely my own work. This is very important to me.
I have belonged to five camera clubs over the years, Three in Hampshire, one of which I was a founder member, and two in Plymouth. I have enjoyed some competition success over the years, and have won several trophies and a silver medal for my work. I am a member of the Royal Photographic Society and I have a Licentiate (LRPS). I am currently working on my Associate panel, which I am hoping to submit in the coming months. I am also working on a PAGB distinction as well
Having returned to Hampshire after living in the West Country, I have been able to re-visit my first love of motor sport where it all began for me. Thruxton is on my doorstep, and Silverstone and Brands Hatch are not too far..I much prefer motorcycle racing to cars, as I find they make a far more exciting image. I have also developed an interest in aircraft and visit as many airshows as I can.
I hope you enjoy my images, and please feel free to leave me some feedback in my contacts section should you so wish?
