about

My passion for photography began well over 30 years now, one Saturday lunchtime in my local pub. A friend and fellow apprentice, had all these photos he had taken at Brands Hatch at the British Grand Prix. They were well exposed and filled the frame, but most of all they were sharp. I felt frustrated at how impossible it was to get anything remotely worth a look with a Kodak Ektra 110 instamatic that my Parents had bought me for Christmas. I was intrigued and literally bombarded him with questions and within a week I had a shiny new Olympus OM1 35mm camera and a book to read. And so began my life long journey from black and white printing in my parents bathroom, to today having this website and sharing my work in cyberspace.

Apart from Motorsport, I have a varied subject interest as you will see from my galleries. If there's a picture in there I will take it. That could be anything from a Clematis Flower to The Red Arrows. I try to limit my use of Photoshop these days to image cropping, sizing, cloning and raw processing, I much prefer to try as much as I can to get it right in camera. I like a little subtle HDR, but not all the heavy stuff that everybody seems to favour, and composite imaging is not for me anymore. I like to think of myself as a photographer not a Photoshop operator, although I do like scanning my old slides and negatives and applying today's technology to them.

I have belonged to five camera clubs over the years, Three in Hampshire, one of which I was a founder member, and two in Plymouth. I have enjoyed some competition success over the years, and have won several trophies for my work. I am a member of the Royal Photographic Society and I have a Licentiate (LRPS). I am currently working on my Associate panel, which I am hoping to submit in the coming months.

Having returned to Hampshire after living in the West Country, I have been able to re-visit my first love of motor sport where it all began for me. Thruxton is on my doorstep, and Silverstone and Brands Hatch are not too far. I have also developed an interest in aircraft and visit as many airshows as I can.

I hope you enjoy my images, and feel free to leave me some feedback in my contacts section should you so wish?
